CATACLYSM IDLE β€” Field Guide

You're the last soul holding an outpost in a world that already ended β€” several times over. The game plays itself (your survivor eats, drinks, fights and works on their own) but the calls are yours: where to send them, what to build, what to risk. Die and the next survivor walks up the south road to the same world β€” your base, stash and map intact.

How survival works

Six meters keep you alive. Health, Food, Water, Rest and Warmth β€” let any hit bottom and your health starts to fall. Thirst kills more survivors than zombies do.

While you watch, nobody eats for you β€” tap the blinking buttons. When you look away (tab in the background or game closed) survival instinct takes over: your survivor eats, drinks and patches up if the stash has supplies. Your job is to keep food, water and meds stocked.

The world never pauses. Meters drain, crafts finish, the garden grows and raids still come while you're away (a little slower, capped at 14 days). You can die offline if you leave the stash dry.

Watch these at the top of the screen. Buttons blink red when it’s time to act.

FOOD
What it isHunger. At 0, your health starts dropping. Eat to refill.
WATER
What it isThirst. At 0, health drops fast β€” the #1 killer. Drink (boil murky water first).
REST
What it isStamina. Low rest (tired) makes ops slower and injuries more likely. Rest or sleep.
WARMTH
What it isBody heat. Below the shiver line you drain rest; deep cold is hypothermia and kills. Wear warm clothing.

Mechanics explained

The systems behind the numbers, in plain terms β€” the stuff worth knowing before a long night.

Cold & warmth

Your warmth chases the weather temperature plus your clothing. Below the shiver line you start draining rest; in deep cold it’s hypothermia and your health falls until you warm up. Layer up for COLD SNAP β€” and the THERMAL REGULATOR mutation is a life-insurance policy.

Hunger & thirst

Food and water tick down every minute. Hit zero on either and your health starts to slide. Water can’t be conjured β€” catch rain or draw from streams (it comes murky) and BOIL & FILTER it, or drink it raw in a pinch for less and a health hit.

Healing & rest

Meds restore health (they won’t be used above 95%). Resting and a full night’s sleep restore rest and heal you β€” more so with an Infirmary Cot. Tired survivors (low rest) work slower and get hurt more often.

Wall defense & raids

When a raid hits, your defense rating (watchtower + combat skill + wall integrity + armor) is weighed against the horde’s strength. STAND TO spends 5 ammo for a big defense boost and is almost always worth it. Lose, and you bleed integrity, supplies, and sometimes a whole building drops a level.

The valley is dying

It only gets worse: hordes grow larger and arrive more often every day. From around week three THE BIG ONE shows up β€” a mega-horde aimed straight at you, announced a day ahead. There’s no cap. Sooner or later the right move is to pack the rig and leave.

Travel, range & fuel

On foot you reach about 50 km. Wheels go further but burn fuel per km beyond that β€” top up at gas stations, labs and caravans. Distant rings are richer and deadlier; a destination past your range reads OUT OF RANGE β€” NEEDS WHEELS until you build a longer-range chassis.

Radiation

Labs and bunkers dose you with rads. It fades slowly on its own; ANTIRAD flushes it faster, and a gas mask or hazmat blocks a share while worn. Too much and you get rad-sick.

Death & the next survivor

Death is permanent for the survivor, not the world β€” your map, base, stash, brass and rig all carry over. Die at home and your kit waits in the footlocker; die in the field and your remains are marked on the map to recover. The next survivor walks up the south road with fresh skills.

Leaving for the next valley

With a car or bigger (a bike can’t cross), PACK THE RIG & GO abandons the valley for good β€” base, stash and map stay behind. What travels is you: your name, mutations, worn kit, every skill and talent, the whole rig, and a limited cargo of each resource.
